Update from Champs CrossFit Fort Vancouver
On Changes, Training, and What Makes Them a Good Team
The 2010 Affiliate Cup champs CrossFit Fort Vancouver are “expecting” some changes to their team: Jessica Core is three months pregnant, and Ryan Smith is about to leave for his service in the Navy. The pun is team member Adam Neiffer’s.
Team Green has otherwise been operating as they did before. Their approach to Games training is different from other top affiliate teams. They don’t take an offseason or ramp up. Neiffer explains, “we train pretty consistently throughout the year, so preparing for the Games is just part of the routine!"
Since the Games, they have worked on improving their benchmark CrossFit workouts while also expanding and diversifying their skill sets. The hope is that they all may continue to become fitter and more well rounded athletes.
Marie, Adam, and Ryan mixed things up by participating in Mt. Rainier’s Strongest Man & Woman event, a strongman competition that helps fund research on fragile X syndrome, in November. They found it was a great experience to get out of their comfort zone and work with some new movements and objects.
As a team, they hold firm to one key tenet: keep it fun. Neiffer told us that they “are a lot like any other group of friends that work out together in garages and gyms all over the country. The workouts are important, but the camaraderie and enjoyment of getting together and giving our best are really what it's all about.”
Core and Neiffer repeatedly mentioned the importance of the team dynamic, and the exceptional connection of this group. “Our team” Neiffer says, “is pretty much like one big family.” We wish them the best in finding new ‘brother’ and ‘sister’ for 2011.
You can expect to see Jess Core rooting from the sidelines this year while planning her return. "Go Green!"
