The Chans Talk the CrossFit Games Open
A Great Opportunity to Foster the CrossFit Community
Matt and Cherie Chan own CrossFit Verve in Denver, Colorado, in addition to competing as CrossFit athletes. Matt most recently achieved 4th place finisher at the 2010 Games and was the overall highest scorer at the CrossFit USAW Open, and Cherie came in 15th at the 2008 CrossFit Games. You may also recognize the Chans from their CrossFit Journal series on nutrition.
Rory Mckernan of CrossFit HQ recently talked to the Chans on the slopes of Aspen, Colorado. With the Open starting in just over a month, the topic of conversation turned to how the Chan's felt about the event, both as box owners and athletes.
The Chans see the Open as an opportunity to have people from all over their region to come to CrossFit Verve and complete the week's WOD. They are planning on hosting 100 to 120 people at their box every Saturday, and a few sponsors have chipped in to supply kegs for a post-WOD party.
Matt's hopes that people take advantage of this opportunity to compete in a local affiliate, meet new people, and have fun. If you're on the fence about competing in the Open, "you don't want to go another year wishing you would have."
