An Interview with Tommy Hackenbruck at the Rogue vs. Again Faster Tahoe Throwdown
Tommy Talks About His Proudest Athletic Feat
He goes by Hacksaw, Hack, or Tommy. Whatever you call him, Tommy Hackenbruck is one heck of an athlete. Tommy finished 2nd at the 2009 CrossFit Games, and 9th in 2010. As a former college football player, Tommy is very strong and powerful. Less predictably, Tommy is also capable of impressive displays of endurance and stamina, such as his 18:07 time on 2010's Double Helen, the fifth fastest at the Games.
Despite his success at college ball, Tommy's proudest athletic feat happened in high school track. He was asked to run the 300m hurdles, having never done the event before. When Tommy accidentally ran through the second to last hurdle, he found it easier than jumping over the hurdles. He then karate kicked the final hurdle on purpose, broke it, and fell off balance, somersaulting several times to regain his balance. As a testament to his athleticism, Tommy still finished second in the event.
Tommy had a lot of fun at the Rogue vs. Again Faster Tahoe Throwdown. Like many other CrossFit athletes, he remarked about the level of sportsmanship found in the CrossFit community, joking that everyone was "way too nice" for such a competitive environment.
