Rogue Vs AF Tahoe Throwdown
Tahoe Event 13: Men's Two-on-Two
Hobart and Malleolo vs. Salo and Holmberg
Score After 12 Events:
Again Faster: 22
Rogue: 13
Rogue's victory in Event 12 pumped up the team for the rest of the competition. Their enthusiasm drained a bit, though, when Again Faster challenged them to a two-on-two beach volleyball game against Pat Barber and Camille Leblanc-Bazinet. Pat played Division I volleyball at CSU Northridge. An outstanding athletic accomplishment considering his height of 5'7 is much shorter than most top volleyball players.
Rogue wanted nothing to do with Pat Barber playing volleyball, and threw their punk card. This forced Again Faster to suggest a different workout.
Event 13
3 Rounds for time of:
Heavy swings (88 lbs.), 15 reps per athlete
Buddy carry uphill
One leg squat, 15 reps per athlete
The buddy carry had to alternate between athletes.
Team Rogue had concerns over their athlete selection for this event. In the end they chose a formidable combination: Graham Holmberg and Mikko Salo. The 2009 and 2010 CrossFit Games champs would take on Again Faster's Austin Malleolo and James Hobart.
Graham and Mikko both struggled with the one leg squats in the 2010 CrossFit Games, while Austin and James are known to excel at them. Despite the pre-event strategizing, the heavy kettlebell swings proved to be the decisive movement in this event.
