Analyzing the Big Men (105, 105+)
Footage from the CrossFit/USAW Open
The big men hit the platform on the last day of the CrossFit-USAW Open. Coach Mike Burgener and elite American lifter Kendrick Farris joined Tony Budding to provide analysis and commentary.
The session included CrossFit strongman Dave Lipson. Dave brings enormous strength to the platform but lacks refinement in his lifts. He has been working with Coach B to improve his Oly technique. Unfortunately Lipson is nursing an injury and isn't able to lift at 100 percent.
Two-time Games athlete Spencer Hendel posted the top lifting total in the 105 class. Had Hendel dropped less than a half-kilo of body weight, he would have been in the 94-kg class.
Matt Chan also lifted in this session. Initially slated for the 105's, Chan was able to make the weight and his lifts were counted against the 94-kg class.
Topics for discussion by the experts include big men taking a narrow grip on the bar, power jerks, jerking from the fingertips, and "double dipping."
