Tahoe Event Two: 7 Minute AMRAP of OHS and Push-ups
Rich Froning Jr. Calls Out Graham Holmberg
After Team Rogue's victory in the Event One log toss, Team Again Faster was looking to even the score with a win in Event Two, which would be another call-out. Again Faster's Rich Froning Jr. challenged 2010 Games winner Graham Holmberg to a seven minute AMRAP of 10 Overhead Squats at 135 lbs., and 10 Games-style push-ups, with hand release at the bottom and full extension at the top.
Not only was Rich looking to support his Again Faster team, but there was another dimension to this competition as well: Rich finished 3 points behind Graham in the 2010 CrossFit Games. The event was sure to be close. Rich was known for his strong overhead squats, but Graham's performance at the Games had left no doubt in his all around physical capacity.
This was a competition, not a workout. Strategy played an important role for the first time in Event Two. With 90 seconds left, Rich had a commanding lead. Team Captain Jon Gilson told Rich to game the final minutes (a difficult task for an elite CrossFitter). Rob Orlando, who was judging on behalf of Team Rogue, offered some interesting coaching tips to Rich. Was this CrossFit camaraderie, or mental warfare?
