Rogue Vs AF Tahoe Throwdown
Tahoe Event Three: Squat Clean Thrusters and Hill Run
Chris Spealler vs. Pat Barber
Score After 2 Events:
Rogue: 1
Again Faster: 1
With Rich Froning Jr.'s dominant win in Event Two, Team Again Faster won a point, matching Team Rogue's total. Event Three was the first "Type Two" call-out of the day. Team Rogue would propose a workout, and then Team Again Faster would choose an athlete from their team to represent them in that workout.
Kristan Clever, the 2010 CrossFit Games female champion and a member of Team Rogue, proposed a challenge. 2 rounds for time of: 5 squat clean thrusters at 135 lbs. and a short uphill run. No woman on Team Again Faster felt capable of taking on the challenge at a pace that would compete with Clever, so Again Faster used their "punk card."
Each team had been given one punk card per day, which they could use to reject a workout proposed by the other team. With Again Faster's punk card used up for the day, Team Rogue was given five minutes to propose another workout, using another one of their athletes.
Chris Spealler of Team Rogue, who finished 3rd in the 2010 Games, decided to add a round to the event:
Event Three:
3 Rounds for Time of:
135 lb squat clean thruster, 5 reps
Hill Sprint
Team Again Faster picked Pat Barber, who didn't qualify in 2010 but placed 36th in 2009 and 4th in 2008, to take on Chris Spealler. Both Chris and Pat are competent olympic lifters with strong metabolic conditioning and quick sprint speed.
To the surprise of Team Rogue, the finish was much closer than anticipated.

I guess they didn't have the advantage of frame-by-frame, but it's clear in retrospect that Spealler touched first.
