Tahoe Event Seven: The Team Run
The Competition Heats Up
Score After 6 Events:
Rogue: 7
Again Faster: 5
Going into the seventh event, the friendly atmosphere gave way to a more serious, competitive vibe. Event Seven was worth eight total points, and required the participation of all team members.
Event Seven:
For time:
Off-trail Run, Approximately 3/4 mile
Far from a typical run, it began with a climb over a wooden wall followed by an extraordinarily steep off-trail portion, around obstacles such as brush, trees, rocks and logs. All of this at 7,000 feet of elevation. Although paved and not quite as steep, the second half of the course continued uphill with several "false-summits" before the end.
Each individual was given a score based on their finish order. First place was worth 22 points, second place was worth 21, and so on. The team with the highest cumulative total took home the event's eight points. The effort of every single team member would be necessary to ensure a victory.
Rogue had an advantage with two of the best runners, Chris Spealler and Mikko Salo, who took first and second respectively in the 2009 Games' 7 kilometer run. The performance of an entire team, and not of one or two individuals, though, would determine the outcome of this closely-contested event.
