Rogue Vs AF Tahoe Throwdown
Tahoe Event One: The Log Toss
Matt Chan takes on Austin Malleolo
The Team Rogue vs. Team Again Faster throwdown at Lake Tahoe began with an unprecedented event for CrossFit competition: a log toss. Matt Chan of Team Rogue challenged Austin Malleolo of Team Again Faster to five log tosses. The man with the highest cumulative distance over five throws would emerge victorious.
Though the event was new to them, both men are world-renowned producers of power output. Matt came in fourth at the 2010 CrossFit Games, won the 94 kilo weight class at the CrossFit/USAW Open, and had the highest point total at the Open. Austin came in 6th at the 2010 Games and took third in the 77 kilo class at the Open.
Beyond pure power, the log toss involves factors such as angle of throw, the length of time the athlete holds onto the log, and how far the log rolls. Chan had the advantage in strength, power, and size, but Austin's long arms seemed to give him a mechanical advantage. Only a head to head competition would determine the winner.
