What to Wear At the CrossFit/USAW Open
"I feel extremely exposed, I feel like a total goofball in this thing."
- Matt Chan
Athletes competing in the CrossFit/USAW Open can count their totals towards future official competitions (American Open, National Championships). However, if you intend to take advantage of this opportunity there are rules to which you must adhere, including the dress code.
If you are not interested in counting this total, you can dress however you like, with some exceptions. For example - individuals who suffer from WOD-induced cotton allergies will be required to wear a shirt while lifting. Short of that, typical athletic apparel is acceptable. There are similar considerations with the footwear that you choose. To count your total, you must wear the proper footwear according to the official rules.
In short, wear whatever you like. If you want your lifts to count - wear the proper uniform.
To illustrate what the proper uniform consists of, CrossFit Ambassadors Matt and Cherie Chan joined Team CrossFit/2012 Olympic prospects Casey and Natalie Burgener at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort to talk about the finer points of singlets.
In the video, Matt and Cherie both rock singlets and ask the tough questions about elephants in the room. "Do I wear underwear with this thing... if I am worried about style only, what should I wear... can couples share singlets?"
If you haven't signed up for the event, it's not too late. You can still Register Online Here.

I love these two! The Crossfit Community is fortunate to have them participating so actively in it.
Thanks Cherie and Matt for modeling and going through the discomfort of wearing the singlets on behalf of educating the Crossfit community. Top Crossfit Competitors all look fantastic anyway, so nobody competing should feel ridiculous in a singlet.

Hoping this article, and the CF-USAW Open itself, will make it easier to find weightlifting singlets! Just starting participating in USAW events, and I've had the worst time trying to find a singlet online. So excited to watch the live stream of this event!
