Why USAW is Teaming Up with CrossFit for the Open
Rick Adams was the CEO of USA Weightlifting when the CrossFit/USAW Open was planned. In this video he explains why USAW would want to partner with CrossFit to create such an unprecedented event.
Rick says that the Open is an opportunity to show the CrossFit community what it's like to compete at a USAW event. CrossFitters who think they're good at the snatch and clean and jerk, but have never competed, now have a chance to go head to head with some of the best weightlifters in the country.
CrossFitters should be aware, though, that weightlifting competition is not the same as lifting in a gym. A USAW competition presents the added difficulties of dealing with a limited number of attempts and strategically picking the load for each attempt. The Open is a great chance for CrossFitters, who already train the olympic lifts, to see what official competition in the snatch and clean and jerk is like.
