Road Trip: Colorado Springs for the CF/USAW Open
Hit the Springs from October 1-3 for this Epic Inaugural Event
One of the oldest sports in Olympic history is teaming up with the sport of fitness to test both specialized athletes and GPP athletes in the same arena at the CrossFit/USAW Open this October.
This event is the first of its kind and provides the stage for top athletes to test their talents in a hybrid competition that will bring out the best of both communities: USAW and CrossFit.
Whether you come to compete or just to spectate, the CrossFit community is taking over Colorado Springs in October. If you've never been to Colorado Springs it is absolutely gorgeous, making it the perfect location for a meeting of the tribes. Check out the video featuring Matt and Cheri Chan!
The event is being hosted at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort. Aside from 360 degrees of breathtaking scenery, the resort is the perfect venue for a CrossFit pilgrimage. Multiple outdoor and indoor pools abound- so relax and recover from the competition. A sports bar, fire-pits beset with breathtaking views and mellow gathering spots are littered throughout the enormous 200 acre grounds. It's perfect for reuniting with your WOD partners from the other side of the nation.
Book your rooms ASAP. We have a limited number of rooms on hold for about another week. Rooms are priced at $108. This is the same weekend as the Air Force Vs. Navy football game and rooms will be very hard to come by.
The actual competition will be held inside the resort. 3 of the resorts 18 tennis courts will house the lifting platforms and the competition floor for the triplet. Resort guests will not be required to pay a separate admission fee. If you are a guest of the resort, you are a guest of the competition.
There will be a party on Saturday night immediately after the competition on the shores of the 35-acre lake directly adjacent the resort. The party is free to attend, with a cash bar and barbecue available for purchase. Catch up with old friends from recent certifications and throw downs or make new ones over a cocktail by the fire.
While you're in town, you should check out the U.S. Olympic Training Center, where over 550 elite athletes train in the state-of-the-art facility. As part of the CrossFit-USAW event, tours of the facility will be offered, and CrossFitters can watch members of the U.S. weightlifting team move some big plates.
If you thought the Hill Sprint in Aromas was gnarly, "The Incline," in nearby Manitou Springs is world famous.
CrossFit Media will also be streaming the action live over the internet.
