Mikko Salo Rope Climbs
The 09 Champ Gets Tips on Better Technique
The CrossFit Games are notorious for exposing any weaknesses in your training protocol. Of course this includes skill-based movements that test an athlete's work capacity. The 2010 Games saw the inclusion of a variety of skill-based movements. Some had been presented in competition before: the snatch and muscle-up, to name a few. Others made their debut this year. The ring handstand push-ups and pistols threw some competitors off guard. However, it was the rope ascents that monkey-wrenched the most competitors, even knocking Rich Froning from the top spot in the final event.
Mikko Salo knew he had things to work on entering the Games. Rope climbs just didn't factor in to that equation. His athletic abilities and desire were enough to get him a few ascents. In a brief tutorial after the Games at CrossFit Santa Cruz, Hollis Molloy offeres Mikko some tips for successful rope climbing.
