European Regional Events Announced
A first look at what the European athletes are up against this weekend.
CrossFit Games action heads across the Atlantic Ocean this weekend. The following message comes from event organizer Mads Jacobsen.
It's almost time for the European Regionals. The event will be held at the Eleiko sport center in Halmstad, Sweden (link to map). The competition will determine which athletes Europe will send to the CrossFit Games Finals at the Home Depot Center in Los Angeles.
Individual Workouts:
Event 1 & 2
Within a 15 minute timeframe the athletes need to complete a distance run. The athlete with the fastest time will be the winner of that event and receive the appropriate score.
Then the athlete will use the remaining time to perform as many overhead anyhows (70/50kg) as possible, until the 15 minutes have passed. The athlete who manages to move the weight from the ground to an established overhead position the most times will be declared the winner and receive the appropriate score.
The clock never stops during this two-in-one event! The faster the athlete is on the run, the more time the athlete will have to perform as many reps as possible.
Event 3
20 Chest-to-Bar Pull-ups
20 Box Jumps
20 Toes-to-Bar
100m overhead carry (80/60kg)
20 Toes-to-Bar
20 Box Jumps
20 Chest-to-Bar Pull-ups
Event 4
For time:
Run 400m
3 rounds of 15 power snatches (40/30kg), 35 double-unders
Run 400m
Event 5
5 Rounds for time of:
5 deadlifts (120/90kg)
20 Lateral Jumps + Burpee
Affilliate Team Events:
Event 1
50 Front Squats (40/30kg)
400m Team Run
40 Kettlebell Swings (32/24kg)
Two athletes may work at the same time. Every athlete must do 50 front squats. The run is with the entire team. Every athlete must do 40 kettlebell swings. Before the athlete is allowed to begin the squats his/her partner must have his/her weight in a full overhead lock out position. The weight must remain in the overhead lock out position, while the partner performs his/her squats. Once the overhead lock out position is compromised the squats performed no longer count. Once the weight is again in the overhead lock out position the athlete may continue the squats.
Event 2
1min AMRAP Deadlift (120/90kg)
1min AMRAP Push-ups
1min Squats
1min Burpees
Two athletes my work at the same time. The workout is performed with a continously running clock. Two athletes finish the entire WOD before the other two may begin. The second the first two athletes finish the WOD the two other athletes may begin, the clock never stops.
Scoring
Athletes will get the same points as their individual placements in each event. Lowest total points will be the winner after 5 events.
Only 32 men and 16 women will move on to Sundays first event (event 4)

Movement Standards
Ground-to-Overhead - weight moves from ground (touch is ok) to full lockout position over head.
Chest-to-Bar - The athlete athlete must touch the bar with the chest on each rep, and the bottom position is defined by the athlete having fully extended arms.
Box Jumps - The athlete is required to come to a full extention of the hip, and knee above the box. The athlete can step onto the box and step down, jump onto the box and step down, or jump onto the box and jump back down as long as the above criteria is achieved.
Toes-to-Bar - In the bottom position the athletes feet need to be behind the bar, and in the top position the athletes feet must touch the bar or pass above the bar.
100m Overhead carry - The athlete must pick the weight of the ground, and get it into an overhead position before begining the walk. At the turning point, the athlete is required to put the weight down before picking it up to the overhead position, before returning to goal.
Power Snatches - The bar begins on the ground- the athlete picks it of the ground and recieves it is the overhead position, before standing up with the weight. In the top position the athletes knees, hips, shoulders and arms are fully extended, and the ears are fully visible from the side.
Double-unders - Two full revolutions of the jump rope must be performed on every jump in order to get the rep approved!
Deadlift - The weight is picked of the ground and the finish position is achieved when the athlete is standing up, with a fully extended body. Knees, and hips are fully extended, and the shoulders are above or behind the bar.
Lateral jumps + burpee - A lateral jump over the bar is performed, after the jump the athlete performs a burpee, this constitutes 1 rep. The burpee begins standing up with fully extended knees and hips, the bottom position is achieved when the thigh and chest are touching the ground- the burpee is finished with a jump and while the athlete is airborne a overhead clap is performed!
Athletes are responsible for being in the right place at the right time
Events will begin on time even if an athlete is not in place
Athletes are allowed to use their own jump ropes at the Qualifier
Athletes are allowed to use chalk
Athletes are allowed to use whichever kind of shoes they want
Unsportmanlike behavior will be awarded with immidiate disqualification
There is no ATM machine at the Sport Center.

Love the look of these WODs, and I'm looking forward to taking them on.
Unfortunately I won't be there to compete! :-(
My wife has broken ribs from a car crash a few weeks ago and last Wednesday he gave birth to our son, Noah, by C-section. So, she is recovering from the broken ribs and major surgery; meaning I'm needed at home.
I have emailed CFHQ but it seems that the message hasn't dropped down as I'm still in a heat!
I'll definitely be there in 2011, which gives me plenty of time to get working!
Once I know the distance for the run I'm going to be all over these WODs.
Good luck to everyone this weekend!

For event 5, if I understand correctly the burpee has to be finished completely before jumping over there bar, or can we jump over the bar straight from the bottom of the burpee?
