First place female from British Columbia is gunning for LA

Name: Emily Beers
Home affiliate: CrossFit Vancouver
Sectional: B.C. Sectional, 1st place

1. What is your athletic background?
From the ages of 4-11, I was a gymnast. I competed at the national level before discovering that I was going to be way too tall to become an elite gymnast (I'm 5'10"). So I quit gymnastics and tried just about every sport imaginable - track and field, volleyball, soccer, water polo, diving, and eventually settled on basketball. I played NCAA Division I basketball during my first year of university, and then transferred back to Canada and played at the University of British Columbia. I soon realized that my passion for the sport had dwindled, so I took up rowing. I rowed for two years at UBC during my undergraduate degree, and then for another two years at the University of Western Ontario (in London, Ontario) during my master's degree. While rowing at Western, I discovered CrossFit (CrossFit London). Originally, it was meant as a way to cross train - to help me reach my goal of making the National Rowing Team. But soon, I found that I loved CrossFit more than rowing, so I have since made CrossFit my sport. Last fall, I moved back to B.C. and started training at CrossFit Vancouver. So far the experience in Vancouver has been beyond my greatest expectations. Since moving to Vancouver, I started coaching at CrossFit Vancouver. Currently I'm an apprentice coach here.

2. What is unique and/or interesting about you as an individual or athlete?
My Dad competed at the 1972 Olympics for Canada in High Jump.

I've never met you, but according to your scores, you are going to be a friggin force to be reckoned with next year. I look forward to seeing you compete at next years regional. Good luck with your training.
