What is your athletic background?
I played many sports as a kid, but during high school I focused mainly on competitive swimming. After high school, I attended Boston University where I swam and competed for four successful seasons. I specialized in middle distance to distance events. With strength training at school, I was exposed to Olympic lifts as well as other barbell lifts. In the off season, I was a beach lifeguard where I competed on the National level. I finally learned how to run when I was a lifeguard. Running in soft sand is no joke! While I am new to CrossFit, my athletic background has allowed me to reduce my learning curve, but I still have weaknesses that need attention.
What is your history with CrossFit?
Shortly after my collegiate swimming career, my cousin told me about CrossFit. He knew the competitive aspect of CrossFit would be exactly what I would need to fill the void of swimming. I moved to Jacksonville, FL in June of 2009 and found CrossFit Southside a month later. I love the community and the camaraderie that CrossFit brings. I’m so thankful that I get to workout with an awesome group of people everyday.
