What is your athletic background?
I was involved in competitive gymnastics from age 3-13. I competed through level 9. After gymnastics I began training in circus arts and power tumbling. I competed in power tumbling at the junior elite level. The most difficult pass I ever performed in competition was a full twisting double back salto. I also performed with a San Jose, CA based non-profit circus troupe in the Russian pole, and swing, teeter board, high wire and static trapeze.
While performing in the circus I got my start in coaching during summer circus camps. I have been coaching artistic gymnastics (vault, bars beam, floor) for the past 12 years. I currently coach a competitive team, level 1-10.
What is your history with CrossFit?
Started CrossFit in March of 2009. Walked in the door with a strict muscle-up, but I couldn’t deadlift to save my life.
Video 1: Laurie vs. Cold, Hard Mary - In this video, Laurie and CrossFit legend Dave Leys take on a difficult combination of rope climbs, parallette handstand push-ups and overhead squats.
Video 2: Laurie's Circus Days - You won't mind the postage stamp-sized video when you see what she can do off of a spring board.
Video 3 : Handstand WOD - Here's another WOD in Laurie's wheelhouse, handstand walks and handstand push-ups.
