Ben Hopkins Out for the Games

2nd Place finisher at the SoCal Section injured in a motorcycle accident.

Ben Hopkins put on a valiant effort at the SoCal Sectional, besting many well-rounded competitors for a 2nd place finish overall. His finishing order throughout the weekend’s events, 7th, 3rd and 3rd show that he’s got not only what it takes to beat most of SoCal’s finest, but he may very well have a chance at a spot in the 2010 CrossFit Games.

Hopkins has been training hard for the Southwest Regional coming up over the weekend of May 8-9th. Unfortunately a motorist ended his bid for Games prematurely this year.

“I was involved in a motorcycle accident a couple of days ago, and my injuries will not allow me to compete in the Southwest Regionals this year. A man in a car unexpectedly cut me off and after bouncing off a few cars and sliding down the freeway, I ended up with a broken collar bone and some road rash. It could have been a lot worse, so I am very grateful for that. I definitely owe CrossFit gratitude for my physique, because many were surprised I fared so well, given how bad the accident was.” said Hopkins.

The whole CrossFit staff wishes you a speedy recovery, Ben. See you next year!

I feel so bad for Ben because i know how hard he worked to get where he was. But, if know him like i think i do and if you all remember what i always told my boys when they where growing up? all things are possible and never give up. So now i feel sorry for the rest of the 2010 competitors, if you know what i mean. Heal fast, train hard. God Bless.

Thanks everyone. I am having surgery next week to put my clavicle back together. Then recovery really begins. I will definitely be at regionals cheering everyone on!

Ben - best of luck with your recovery bro! It's sad to know that such a bum experience will rob you, and a whole lot of people the experience of watching you tear the competition up!
