What is your athletic background?
Growing up I played football, hockey and lacrosse. I went to prep-school during my high school years and there we were required to play three seasons of sports. There I played varsity football, hockey and I decided to run track to get faster. This is when I learned that I needed to get stronger and faster because I was only 5’5" and I was not getting any taller so I decided to learn a thing or two about weightlifting. I would lift every day and have practice or a game every day, I became a gym rat. I went to college at SUNY Cortland and was going to play hockey, but decided to pursue my studies instead. Then I became your quintessential meathead, but I always trained with intensity and as if it were my last work out. This helped my transition into CF, but I had a lot of learning to do.
What is your history with CrossFit?
I found CrossFit when I was a personal trainer at a sports club in New Milford, CT. Another trainer told me about it and I was always looking for a challenge, so I did Fran in the gym with him watching, I did it in 4:44 and I was ready to pass out and vomit, and I was hooked. I had never been crushed by a workout, It was only 95lbs I told myself, that’s light… Little did I know. It took me one month to fully convert to CrossFit. This was in July of 2009. Then I signed up for a certification as soon as I could and never looked back. I found out about the Games, and I bought the movie, Every Second Counts, and as soon as I watched it, I knew what I was going to be doing for the next year. I moved up to Syracuse, NY to finish my degree in exercise science and I started to work at CrossFit Dewitt. I got numerous Certifications and I started to train as many classes as I could. As of today it is my full time job. I coach CrossFit classes, CrossFit Kids classes, Sports training classes and running mechanics classes.
My biggest source of support comes from my father, he has converted his basement into a CF strong hold with all the necessary equipment, and I send him WOD’s daily. He and I talk every day and he supports me and helps me through my training and he has decided to compete in the masters competition as well! He is my right hand man, and has supported me though many things including my CF journey.
