Northern European Wrap-Up
Stockholm Fight Center checks in with the following report from the North European Sectionals that transpired over the weekend.
The first day of the Northern Europe sectional coincided with the first day of spring in Sweden. The second day started with heavy snowfall and heavy deadlifts!
Some big weights where pulled in the deadlift The top male athletes, Alexander Alexandrov and Uffe Tronhjem Soerensen, tied for the for the first position at 210 kg (462 pounds) in the mens heat. In the womens heat Jenny Jacobsen took first place with a 125 kg pull.
As the crew began to set the stage for the final event, a couplet of 15-12-9 Squat cleans (60/40kg) and chest to bar pullups, it became clear that there were two athletes that were ahead of the rest in the total standings. Jenny Jacobsen had three first place finishes and Alexander Alexandrov had two first and one fourth place finish.
The final workout held an amazing pace and the air was filled with chalk, barbells and the cheering of the crowd. The womens heat displayed excellent technique and Jenny Jacobsen from Sweden secured her win by doing the couplet in 5:38 - fast enough for another fourth place finish. Most cheered on was Sarah Troelsen from Denmark who was pregnant and finished all of the workouts with excellent skill. She exhibited a tremendous fighting spirit.
The last heat put all of the top placing men against each other and the race between Eric La Cour and Alexander Alexandrow became a real thriller. Martin Moeller had an outstanding performance, he and Alexandrov ended in a tie with an amazing time of 5:04. This was good enough to secure Alexandriov a first place finish with Moeller staying in the top three.
The final results put Sweden's Jenny Jacobsen and Alexander Alexandrov at first place. Denmark and Finland were represented most dramatically otherwise.
With the wonderful atmosphere and the fierce competition here at the Sectionals, the European Regional is going to be a real treat.
A big thank from CrossFit STHLM to everyone attending, competing, cheering and helping out in anyway!
