South Texas Sectional

Central/Southern Texas Sectional Competitor Spots Open

Due to an overwhelming demand, the host of the Central/Southern Texas Sectional has opened up an additional 35 spots for male competitors. That means that all wait listed male athletes are now in and there are 6 spots up for grabs. If you were on the fence before, secure your spot now. This region is a leader not only in competition, but in community as well and this is an opportunity to be involved that should not be missed.

Despite the fact that this is not even close to the right forum for debate of a CFJ article (You're debating a rhetorical remark in an article about children in India in an announcement on the games page about extra spots in a Texas sectional. Seriously, think about that), I guess I'll take the bait. In the article, the frame of reference is of key importance. When Rashmi Cole says "CrossFit monsters lifting impossibly huge weights." her frame of reference is for teenage orphans in India who weigh, on average, 130lb and live on a very light all vegetarian diet. For those kids, a guy like Jason Khalipa is a Crossfit Monster who lifts impossibly huge weights. This context is incredibly obvious if you read even the first two paragraphs of the article.

Woah, and there is what...like only 75 guys signed up for the other South Central Region sectional in OK? Something seems a little out of whack there.

Shane - well I guess it is all in how you look at it...

More folks have registered in the Southern Sectionals than Northern Sectionals. And as the CF line is drawn there may actually be a more dense CF population from the El Paso line down south.

As for registraints for both sectionals - we have more folks registered this year combined than we did last year for the first regionals event in Ft Worth. We only had 150 total pre registrations at Hells Half Acre last year, and we capped it at that. So those signing up for both of our sectional regions is a real nod that this thing is growing for sure.

Team registrations seem to be picking up as well for this years event... I think at last count we had 16 teams set to compete thus far and I am sure that will grow as well.

Its all good in my mind. I look forward to seeing the tope 120 folks sent to Regionals this year.
